§
Approximately 70 MICASE speech events are available as streamed RealAudio files on this web site.
(Click on Sound Files On-line above.)

Note on sound quality:

All of the sound recordings for MICASE were originally recorded on digital audio tape (DAT), and although the sound quality may vary due to a variety of environmental factors and recording conditions, all meet minimum sound quality acceptability for transcription purposes; most of the available sound files are of above average sound quality for natural, non-studio recordings, and would be suitable for use in classroom teaching. The sampling rate for the MP3 sound files is 128 K/s, in stereo.

Confidentiality and anonymization:

Some sound files have been anonymized, in order to ensure confidentiality. In most cases this involved simply editing over names or other identifying information using a sound editing technique that leaves the timing and rough prosodic contour intact, but distorts the words so they are incomprehensible. In a few cases, one non-primary speaker’s speech was edited out completely; these are noted on the complete list of sound files below.

Contents of each speech event:

Please refer to the MICASE online website to examine the transcripts of audio files you are interested in purchasing.
